Davey Lahteenmaa brings with him 25 years of piano teaching experience. He earned both a BA, majoring in Music, and a BEd from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. While pursuing his piano studies at Lakehead under Heather Morrison, Davey took every opportunity to develop his skills, participating in masterclasses with renowned Canadian pianists, including André Laplante and Jamie Parker.
It was in Thunder Bay that Davey started his piano teaching career, with private instruction and as the principal piano teacher at the Lakehead School of Music.
In 2004, Davey moved to Montreal, where he led a successful piano program at Willingdon Elementary School and held the position of Musical Director of Champions Day Camp for several years.
In 2008, Davey Lahteenmaa was thrilled to be hired as the music teacher at The Priory School, a co-ed, English independent school in Westmount. At The Priory, his responsibilities included planning and teaching music classes for all the students, organizing full-school concerts, volunteering as the sound and light technician for drama productions, and simply adding the magic of music to all school events. Throughout these years, Davey continued to be a sought-after piano teacher in the Notre-Dame-de-Grace and Westmount areas of Montreal.

Always a life-long learner, Davey completed his ARCT in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in 2020. Besides playing, he loves creating his own music, and encourages his students to express themselves through their own compositions. Davey’s own works have been performed by the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and at the New Music North festival in Thunder Bay. He continues to create his own delicate piano pieces, which he publishes on Bandcamp.
In 2024, Davey moved to Sudbury, a move back to his roots in Northern Ontario. As one of Nickel City’s newest residents, Davey is thrilled to contribute to the building of the music community in Sudbury and share in the musical journey of his new students! He is currently taking on new students as part of the music teaching team at Long and McQuaid as well as privately from his home.
